SYNOPSIS

Every summer, Grey returns to her hometown, La Cachette, Louisianaβ€”a town situated deep in the bayou, with a renowned history of psychic residents & uncanny powers. However, in a place seemingly impossible for secrets, no one seems to know the whereabouts of Eloraβ€”Grey’s best friend & twin soul, who vanished without a trace six months ago.

Following the trail of clues in the wake of Elora’s abrupt disappearance & her own strange but vivid flashes of visions, Grey grapples with the realization that everything she’s ever known may somehow be connected to the town’s twisted history.

As a massive hurricane forms beyond the bay & determination fades into desperation, Grey must struggle to stay afloat in the dark & shallow lies that may threaten to drown her.

REVIEW

A dark & atmospheric YA thriller, well-paced & suspenseful, with a refreshing mix of supernaturalism & an ending you’ll epically fail to anticipate. This is by far one of my most pleasant surprises of 2021. Thanking all my lucky stars for having stumbled upon a sneak peek on #BookishFirst (submitted a preorder within a single chapter)

My favorite element of the book was the psychic flashes of visions that intercepted beginnings of every chapter, they added so much thrill to the expectation of when we’d connect the dotsβ€”I never would’ve guessed how! Though I’m not a big fan of supernatural themes, it’s well-established as to intrigue but not overwhelm or steal away the plot, which built perfectly upon the layers of tension.

I do have to admit I wasn’t a big fan of our main girl Grey. Her constantly wavering faith in her beliefs, decisions & people around her annoyed me throughout the entire storyβ€”however, I do see that it was a vital trait & realistic flaw of her character.

Recommended for readers who enjoy the dark & addictive thrills of an original & haunting mystery.
